The current Jukrimdong catholic church was built on the hill, which was purchased by father, Thomas, which was added to the lower lot prepared by the fellow Christians in Gomsil with difficulty, and its ceremony of laying the cornerstone was held in April 5, 1949, as shown in the cornerstone, which is written in the Latin, which is attached on the wall of the catholic church.

The construction of a new catholic church was planned according as father Thomas came to be in charge of the vicar in 1941, two years after father Thomas was appointed as the father in charge, but the starting of the construction could not help being postponed due to the detention of foreigners under the Japanese colonial rule. Along with the liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, father Thomas resumed the office but he postponed the construction due to many difficult situation, and fortunately, the construction started in earnest in 1994 thanks to the help of the U.S. military forces. One wall of the Jukrimdong catholic church built during the Korean War occurred in June 25, 1950 collapsed and the priest house, etc. were damaged, but in June 8, 1956, the Cathedral with a new form was constructed.

‘Jukrimdong Catholic Church’ settled on the hill of Jukrim-dong in a variety of hardships and difficulties like this is basically a Gothic-styled construction finished with the stone construction and looks like a catholic church of the European style of the middle ages. This Catholic Church is built with the main entrance and bell tower, and the front side of simple design gives weight feelings. The front side of the exterior consists of solid finishing materials, and the inside of the Cathedral has the faint and quiet atmospheres of Catholic Church, which are emitted from the rectangle-formed round arch styled wooden ceiling. As a religious construction, which has the external appearance of the solid stone construction harmonized with the stained glass of good atmosphere and the indoor formations making people feel pious, the Chuncheon Jukrimdong Cathedral was registered as No. 54 of registered cultural properties in June 30, 2003 to have been managed.
