As a
high mountain with the height of 1,051
m, Mt. Garisan is located on the boundaries
of three places such as Chuncheon
city, Inje-gun, and Hongcheon-gun.
When seen from Soyang dam to the east,
since two rocks rising high to the
distance run with Lake Soyang so that
this mountain looks similar to that
famous Mt. Matterhorn of the Alps,
this mountain makes a deep impression.
The name of the mountain, Gari, is
a pure Korean word meaning the бо
large heap of the evenly piled crops,
which are bundled in the unit of a
sheaf, or firewoods, or the like,
and this name is derived from a mountain
peak, which has a peaked hood look
like a stack of grain. Around the
summit, there is the Gasap mountain
trail leading to Lake Soyang, and
its form looks like a stepped hollow.
This mountain composes part of the
inland mountain range, which is one
of Taebaek mountain. Hongcheon river
originates from the south of the first
peak, composing the water source of
Soyang river, the branch of Bukhan
river. The ridge is somewhat gently-sloping,
but since the whole area of the summit
is composed of three rocks, between
which there is a narrow gorge, and
has a lookout so much excellent that
the summit can be called the first
view point of Gangwon, from the summit,
high mountains and lofty hills in
the inland of Gangwon such as Lake
Soyang, and Baekdu mountain range,
which forcibly stretches from Hyangrobong
in the north, through Mt. Seoraksan,
to Mt. Odaesan, are seen at one sight.
If you get aboard a boat at the ferry
of the dam, approaching Mulno-ri,
you can climb this mountain. Nowadays,
since a recreation forest was constructed
in Cheonhyeon-ri, Hongcheon-gun, many
climbers starts hiking there. |
