As
a representative national museum of Gangwon-do,
this museum was opened on October 30, 2002. This
museum is the nation¡¯s central culture
base facility, which not only displays and conserves
the cultural heritages of Gangwon from the prehistoric
age to the ancient time, Goryeo period, and the
modern Choseon systematically, but also performs
the science research and the social culture education.
Constructed in the background of the graceful
nature landscape of Aemakgol of Chuncheon, city
of beautiful lakeshore, Chuncheon national museum
with advanced facilities is the modern-styled
three-storied building, and its land area is 14,614
pyeong, floor area of construction is 3.060 pyeong,
and the exhibition room displays around 1,000
relics including four treasures and one national
treasure (No. 124 ¡®Seated bodhisattva granite
of Hansongsa temple site). This museum is a composite
culture space formed variously with a lecture
hall with 230 seats, library, lecture room, seminar
room, outdoor performance hall, cafeteria, and
museum shop, etc, in addition to them. Chuncheon
national museum was selected as the Korean excellent
and beautiful construction to be awarded the prize
for construction from the Korean Institute of
Architects. Also, this museum is a note place
of local culture providing a comfortable and agreeable
culture enjoyment space to visitors as a treasure
house of cultural heritages of Gangwon.
