These
'Muninseok' (stone monument for a man of literature) are located
at the site of Gwangseonggun Kim Jeong's Grave. He took in the innovative
political reform that King Gongmin of Goryeo Kingdom led. These
stone monuments are the works showing antique and humble sculptural
beauty.
They show the same sculptural style, but their sizes are a little
bit different. The height of the stone monument on the left is
121cm. And the height of its coronet is 15cm and the length of
its face is 30.5cm. Its body is 38cm thick. Whereas, the stone
monuments on the right show 123.5cm, 16cm, 30.5cm and 36cm respectively
as a counterpart. They are smaller than ordinary 'Muninseok' at
any other province. Their noses and eyebrows are sculptured low
in depth, and their eyes and mouth are expressed with lines only.
Kim Jeong's ancestral home is Gwangsan. He held various posts
in succession such as Yanggwang, Chalbangsa of Jeonra-do provinc
and, Daehogun during the reign of King Gongmin of Goryeo Kingdom.
It is also written in Gwangjumokji and Sinjeungdonggukyeojiseungram,
historic documents, that he was appointed as Jungdaegwang Gwangseongdaegun.
There stand a tombstone at the right site of the grave and a
pair of Muninseok, a pair of 'Mangjuseok' and a 'Sangseok' (an
offering table) at the center. But, they have been built recently
except for Muninseok. A shrine is built 200m away from the grave.
