According
to an old document, this stone pagoda belonged to the temple Jomyeonsa
in Sujeong-dong. Today, no vestiges of the temple have been found,
but only this stone pagoda stands lonely in a alley of a town.
Because the upper part of the pagoda was lost, and its low part
was buried under ground, we are not able to find out the exact
height or construction scale of the pagoda. But, only the height
is estimated at 1.88m high above ground.
The material used for the construction of the pagoda has not
been damaged and remains firm. We can see that an inclined plane
of the second floor's body stone was sculptured differently from
those of other floors and it is not refined as a whole. Judging
from a dull and simple appearance of it, it is supposed to be
made during the later part of Goryeo Kingdom.
There are no confirmed records about the site of the temple Jomyeonsa,
so we do not know its origin or its scale. But we can still find
many broken pieces of tiles around the pagoda. In view of the
fact that this village is called 'Sataegol (Landslide Valley)',
we can figure out that the temple was buried due to a landslide
and the lower part of the pagoda was buried underground as well
at the same time.
