Sir. Uiam Ryu In-Seok is a great Confucian scholar, who succeeded the orthodoxy of the school of Hwaseo Lee Hang-No, and representative general of loyal soldiers in the end of the Choseon dynasty.

His place of origin is Goheung, and his another name called after marriage is Yeoseong, and his pen name is Uiam. He was born in Gajeong-ri, Nam-myeon, Chuncheon city in the 8th year of the Choseon King Hyeonjong¡¯s rule(1842). He started the phenomenon of righteous armies by opportunities of the Eulmi sabyeon(the murder of Queen Min) and the danballyeong(bobbed hair order) in 1895 and displayed activities greatly in the whole area of the middle area of Korea, and in 1908, he sought refuge in the Maritime Province of Siberia(overseas) and continued the fight for resisting to Japan so that he was had as the 13 do Uigundochongjae(governor). Like this, he is the representative figure of the phenomenon of righteous armies resisting Japan in the end of the Choseon period.
He developed the phenomenon of righteous armies with loyalty for saving the nation based on the doctrine of ¡°defending orthodoxy and rejecting heterodoxy¡±, and in January 29, 1915, at 74 years old, he died in China without witnessing the Korean liberation from the Japanese colonial rule.
The Uiam memorial service is performed for meditating on the spirit of defense of the fatherland and the instructions, of Sir. Uiam You In-Seok born by Chuncheon and for making him the index of us who live today.
The Uiam memorial service is a event for respecting the memory for admiring the souls of 34 loyal soldiers of Chuncheon such as Uiam You In-Seok, who was the general of loyal soldiers in the end of the Chosen period and for succeeding their sublime spirits. The memorial services from the 1st one to 6th one were performed in the graveyard on the 3rd day of every March according to the lunar calendar. As for the memorial services from the 7th to 10th,, on the 1st day of October, Uiam memorial service was performed, and on the 2nd day, the military and people athlete meeting was held. From the 11th memorial service(1995), the event for respecting his memory and literature event, etc, are held on April 12, the date when the grave of Uiam was removed to another place,. In the future, it is planned to expand this memorial service to the event that can stand for Korea in terms of sciences or the anti-Japan resistance movement, while performing the business for making Uiam sacred precincts simultaneously.
The event includes the memorial service for respecting his memory, lecture of Uiam¡¯s ideas, exhibition of photos related to the anti-Japan resistance movement, Uiam fine art contest, nation-wide Chinese poetry composition contest, and Hangeul composition contest, etc. The memorial service for respecting his memory is held under the auspices of the Uiam memorial service committee in front of the statue of Uiam located in the Chuncheon citizen park. Since 2000, the directors of organizations in the unit of do have participated, as temporary officiants at rites, and carried out the Confucian styled memorial rites according to the accompaniment of the Provincial Korean Music Orchestra.
