As one of the Korean top eight festivals, the
Chuncheon puppet Festival held for the first time
in September, 1998 is the Korean greatest size
of puppet festival where amateurs and professional
acting troupes participate together. The puppet
acting troupes from various nations of the world
participate and show the high levels of performances,
and seek for enhancing the international exchanges
of theatre acting troupes, and their qualities.
It is also the performance art festival for children,
which provides a new artistic experience to children
through puppet plays and side events.
As for performances, you can enjoy the hand puppet
play, rod puppet play, string puppet play, shadow
puppet play, whole body mask puppet play, and
mixed play(Bokhapgeuk), etc. variously. The Chuncheon
puppet festival tried to contribute to develop
children¡¯s emotions by strengthening the
children participating programs that have high
educational effects, such as the amateur puppet
play contest, street parade, puppet display on
the street, paper folding, and painting the puppet
play, etc., in addition to abundant performances
such as the performance by formally inviting the
acting troupe of overseas each nation, free participation
performance, and Myeongdong street performance,
etc. It prepared a new lot based on which it will
be reborn as the mecca of the puppet play by opening
the ¡®Chuncheon puppet only theatre¡¯
and the ¡®nation of water, the nation of dream¡¯,
and will take off as the Chuncheon puppet Festival,
which advances toward the world, more forcibly.
