CHOSUN
ILBO CHUNCHEON MARATHON
The figures who led the Korean marathon under
the Japanese colonial rule, such as Son Gi-Jeong,
who was the Berlin Olympic winner in the end of
1945, Gwon Tae-Ha, Kim Eun-Bae, and Nam Seung-Ryong,
etc created the ¡°Chosun Marathon Popularization
Association¡¯ for reconstructing the Korean
marathon, and actively made an effort to popularize
the marathon and nurture athletes along with Chosun
Ilbo Newspaper company, As the first fruit of
the efforts, they hosted the 1st Chosun Ilbo short
course marathon in October 27, 1946. Since 1991,
a new marathon course was prepared in Chuncheon,
and in October 28, 1995, the name of the marathon
was changed into the ¡°Chosun Ilbo Chuncheon
International Marathon¡¯ and has reached
until today.
The Chuncheon marathon will be a field of the
festival for the general public for promoting
the citizens¡¯ health, while performing
a role of improving the records of elite athletes
and a role of the gateway to their success in
the future too.
