1) Installation
Applying to have a telephone line installed is easy, as it may be done by calling your local telephone office at 100 (no prefix) or in writing at the telephone office business windows. You will need to know your alien Registration Number and residence address. Installation costs \60,000 and the basic monthly rate is \5,200. Pay the bills that will be sent to your address every month at the bank.

2) Moving and Cancellation
Contact the telephone office approximately one week before moving. If you move to another area you will be issued another telephone number. Many people move in March, causing it to take a while to be issued a new number, so be sure to contact the telephone office early on, Cancellation of the telephone line can be done over the telephone, through the mail, or by visiting the local telephone office.

3) Using The Telephone
(1) Domestic Calls
When calling within the same area, you are connected by simply dialing the telephone number from your name phone, a public phone, or a mobile phone. Of course when you wish to call another are within korea you must dial the area code and then the person's phone number

(3) Public Telephones
Public telephones may be used for local, long-distance, and international calls, and there are three kinds : coin operated, card operated, and those that accept both coins and telephone cards. You may use \10, \50, and \100 coins. IC cards come in \3,000, \5,000, and \10,000 denominations, and are sold in neighborhood grocery stores Occasionally one will find public telephones that operate using credit cards.

4) Mobile Phones
Mobile phones, depending on frequency sending method, are either the cellular phone services of SK Telecom (011) and Shinsegi (017), or the PCS phon services offered by Korea Telecom Freetel (016), Korea Telecom M.com (018), and LG Telecom (019). Usage fees vary by company, depending on volume and time used.
(1) Applying For Mobile Phone
Go to one of the branch stores of one of the above companies and pay after filling out an application. The price of the phone itself is separate. Ask at the store about the price of the phone and use fees

5) International Calls Using Dialing Assistance 00799
Dial 00799 (with no prefix) if you would like the help of an operator from Korea Telecom in making an international call. You can do this from anywhere in the country, and there are a diverse range of services available. First dial 00799, and an operator will answer. Ask for the desired service, and you will be connected.
-Station to Station Call
For calls to anyone at the telephone number that you state to the operator
-Person to Person Call
For calls to an extension number or specific individual as stated by you to the operator
-Collect Call
When the person receiving the telephone call agrees to pay the charges of the call, having been asked by the operator.

6) Ways to save on International Calls
-It is possible to receive discounts of between 15%, and 40% by applying for discount deals.
-Call early in the morning or late at night, or during the 30% to 50% discount times on legal holidays.
-Use public telephones, as call made from regular telephones are charged telephone tax.

7) Important Telephone Expressions
-Yoboseyo : Use when you want to confirm that someone is on the line, just as you would use “hello" in English.
-Bakkweo juseyo : The way you ask to speak to the desired person.
-Jamkkanman gidaryeo juseyo : How you tell the person on the other end of the line to wait momentarily.
