Jinsaeng
It is a plant with a root looking like a human and stalks and leaves are withered in fall while the root is alive. It is a perennial anti-shade plant with a effect of a medicine and called as many names such as Sincho, Yeongcho, and Bulrocho to prevent various kinds of diseases or to be used as a medicine to strengthen virility in a broad way.
The original Korean name of Jinsaeng is “ Sim” and the roots of the word and the period for use are not known. However, as Jinsaeng was marked as Sim in Dongeuibogam, Jejungsinpyeon or Bangyakhappyeon, “ Sim” was used in those days as the name for use and it passed down up to the present as the slang for Jinsaeng picker. The character “ In” in Jinsaeng of Goryeo dynasty derives from the fact that it’s root looks like human and the Chinese character signifying Jinsaeng was recorded as or etc. in the Chinese literature. It is distinguished from other kinds of Jinsaeng not looking like a human. There are 7 to 8 species of Jinsaeng in the world and yet three kinds are distributed to the international market as a product after grown economically.
